Photographing the Wehe family always feels a little like coming home. I’ve known Kristen practically my whole life — we grew up going to the same church, played sports together, and were best of friends all throughout high school. Getting to capture her family over the years is such a gift, and I’m constantly reminded of how special it is to watch a friend step into the role of a loving, patient, joy-filled parent.

Kristen and Jonathan are so down-to-earth, kindhearted parents. Their kids, Kailey and Sammy, are as cute as can be and always bring such fun, sweet energy to their sessions. I’ve photographed them several times now, and it’s been so beautiful to see how they’ve grown and how much their personalities shine through each year.

This fall, we met at a gorgeous new spot I discovered in Tower Grove Park, tucked between two giant willow trees. We scheduled their session toward the end of golden hour, and the light was absolutely stunning — rich, warm, and perfectly even. The kind of light that makes every color pop and wraps everything in a soft, glowing warmth. It was the perfect backdrop for a family I adore so much.

I love the way Kristen and Jonathan love their kids — with patience, gentleness, and so much joy. Seeing Kristen as a mom always makes me proud of the family she’s built and the life they’re creating together. Sessions like this make me so grateful for long-lasting friendships and for the chance to document families as they grow through the years.
