This session was extra special for me — I’ve known Kaylee and Scott for years! We all went to college together, and Kaylee is one of my best friends. We talk every single day, so photographing her family always feels less like work and more like spending time with people I love.
Their kids — Elliot, Evie, and Theo — are as sweet as can be. They’ve grown up in front of my camera, and every time I see them, I’m amazed by how much they’ve changed while still keeping those same big smiles and playful spirits. They always do such a great job listening and having fun with the games and prompts I throw their way.
We met at The Hatchery at Forest Park for their fall Mini Session. The forecast looked fine all week, but as the afternoon rolled around, the rain chances started creeping up. I was checking my weather app constantly because I had several sessions scheduled that evening and really didn’t want to reschedule. Thankfully, the rain held off for their entire session — not a single drop until after we wrapped up!
The overcast sky ended up being such a gift. It made the fall colors around the lake look so bold and vibrant — everything just popped! Between the soft light, the rich fall backdrop, and their perfectly coordinated autumn outfits, this session quickly became one of my favorites I’ve photographed this year.
It’s always such a joy capturing this sweet family and watching them grow together. Sessions like this remind me why I love what I do so much — beautiful colors, happy kids, and people who mean the world to me.
